Love is in the Present

Love is in the Present

Earlier this week I was in Patrick Harrington’s class at Kindness and he invited the class to connect to their earliest memory of love. A sweet memory effortlessly bubbled to the surface. I was 4 years old and my Grandma Maggie was holding me in her arms as she rocked me in the rocking chair. I had just found out that I wasn’t invited to a birthday party that all my friends were invited to. I know…but this was honestly one of the very first times that I ever remember feeling emotionally hurt. What was so powerful about this experience was that my Grams didn’t try to fix it. She didn’t try to change anything. She didn’t try to make what I was experiencing go away. I don’t remember her saying anything at all to tell you the truth. She wasn’t DOING anything, she was simply BEING present with me. This memory is a beautiful reminder that where there is presence, there is Love…and you cannot feel or extend Love anywhere other than in the present moment. When you feel loved by someone, aren’t you feeling that connection because the other person is listening to you? They’re extending a loving presence and allowing you to have your experience without interfering with it by trying fix it for you. Most of the time that’s really all we need from our partners, friends and family members. In truth, it’s also what we need from ourselves. Could you imagine what it would be like to extend the same loving presence to whatever was surfacing in YOUR body or heart that you would extend to another during their time of suffering? Simply listening and being rather than changing and doing. This has been my practice. I share this not as an expert of any kind, but as a student of Love…constantly learning, growing and expanding this Truth within myself. We want so badly to move away from what doesn’t feel good. We want a quick fix and if we don’t get that we resist, resist, resist. It’s the resistance that makes whatever we’re resisting stick. Presence is the key ingredient in healing because Love cannot be separated from presence…and Love heals all things! Love the entirety of your experience in this life. Even if that means looking straight into the eyes of your greatest fear or directly into the sadness in your heart. Let yourself feel it, explore it, and understand it with your presence. It’s presence that brings a release, a flow, and a softening so that you can enjoy life to the fullest. After all, no one said this healing stuff would be easy. You can bring an innocent lightness to all that you experience. Through innocence you will watch feelings, emotions and experiences come and go without becoming rigid. You will open yourself up to the truth that the experience you’re having is a piece of the puzzle of your awakening, your healing, and your homecoming. ~Sending gratitude to my Grammy Maggie for this teaching and to Patrick for asking the perfect question to spark this sweet...

BE Your Truth in 2016!

BE Your Truth in 2016!

Each one of us was put on this planet for one purpose, which is centered around living the Truth of who you are- Love incarnate. We are here to BE Love, to share love, and to express love. The love that I’m talking about is Divine Love. It’s the Love that was birthed from Source and lives in each one of us. Like a sunbeam to the sun, we are not separate (from Source and from one another). In 2016, I am setting my intention on living this truth. I am witnessing how easily I become distracted by fear. How in just an instant I can be pulled out of alignment with this truth by doubt or worry. Know the feeling? All things are either the expression of love or the expression of fear, and only we can direct our attention towards one or the other. No doubt, both are present and available to us in each moment. So, I invite you to regularly check in with yourself. Ask, what am I choosing in this moment? The Way of Mastery beautifully shares, “There can be a delight in consciously repeating the decision to teach only Love, selectively choosing only the vibrational patterns to be allowed into your consciousness that reflect the Truth and the beauty and the worthiness of who you are.” The simple awareness that you have disconnected from your truth opens the door to make the choice to realign. Realigning means you embody the Truth of why you are here, which is to live without conflict, in happiness, joy, and fulfillment. As you read these words, your mind might be saying, how can I live like this when I have conflicts at work, and a family member that is sick, and financial problems I’m dealing with? The resistance is showing up as a reminder that there is healing that needs to be done. So, extend the unconditional Love that lives within you to the resistance. It is shouting at you because you have been ignoring it. As you explore working with the healing gift of Love that lives within you, and every one of us on this planet, you will experience a depth of power that’s available to you in every moment. “Love fulfills all things. Love embraces all things. Love heals all things. Love transforms all things. –The Way of Mastery If this is striking a cord within and you are interested in exploring this more, come see me for an Integrated Energy Therapy session. These sessions are designed to connect you to your Soul’s purpose and help you clear the blockages that keep you from living your Truth. Learn more about IET HERE. Mindful Exploration Sit comfortably and deepen your breath. Allow your breath to unwind any muscular and/or mental tension. With each exhalation, visualize that your body is emptying. Continue to focus on your exhalations and release everything from your body, including all the joints, tissues, and organs. Witness as you become an empty vessel, completely clear and open. Bring your awareness to the crown of your head. With each inhalation, draw in Divine Love through the crown of your head into your body. Flood your body with The Light gifted to you from Source. Know that there is nothing to do, nothing to achieve, nothing to strive for. You are simply experiencing the Truth of who you...

All Events are Neutral: A Path to Freedom

All Events are Neutral: A Path to Freedom

ALL EVENTS ARE NEUTRAL… Integrating these four simple words can be life changing. All events are neutral, and you are free to see them any way you choose. This includes your body (thoughts, emotions, sensations), all life experiences (the joyful and the painful), and all people you encounter.  This practice is about taking responsibility for every reaction you allow to make a home in your body. Nothing outside of you creates your experience, therefore all events are neutral. A very simple example of this is one that we have all likely experienced. Say you are running late for an appointment and you drive up to a red light. Suddenly you feel irritable and angry. You believe that if the red light would just turn green, everything would be better. You have made yourself a victim of the red light, when in reality, the red light is neutral. You and you alone have chosen to identify with the anger and frustration that surfaced within. It was your choice to connect to these energies. This practice is about cultivating an awareness of your reactions and choosing to meet them with innocence and love, rather than seriousness and judgement. What I am sharing here is a foundational teaching of the book, The Way of Mastery. In each moment, you can choose judgement, victimization, negativity, etc. Or you can choose peace, allowance, acceptance and love. This teaching is like hitting the pause button on life so that you can choose consciously every time. It is a reminder that life was never meant to be taken so seriously. When I practice this, it reminds me to look upon my life with the innocence of a child. We are all powerful creators of our lives. The way we choose to think about ourselves and the world around us creates our reality. So why not choose ease? Why not choose innocence and love at all times?  Should you choose to anchor this teaching into your body and life, you will surely come up against some resistance to this. There are parts within us that want someone or something to blame. We have parts that don’t want to take responsibility! Have you ever experienced this? Healing does not know the word blame. We heal not by resisting or judging the darkness (judgement, negativity, victimization, etc.), but by cultivating a relationship with the Light (allowance, acceptance, love, peace, etc.). We heal through recognizing the resistance, embracing it and making another choice over and over again to become identified with the Light. “Along the pathway of this course, you are going to learn how to shake hands with the devil, and do a little jig with him and recognize his face to be your own. When you can dance with the darkness that you have created, that darkness is transformed into an angel, and light abides with Light.” –The Way of Mastery This teaching gets tested in times of tragedy. How can this be applied to situations like a school shooting, a terrorist attack, or when someone you love dies? It’s not about brushing off the tragedy or not caring. Rather it’s a reminder to pause and breathe. It gives you permission to redirect the negativity and fear- the cycle of needing to know why and your focus on fairness. It reminds you that you can choose where to place your energy and your heart. You can choose to send love to your own heartache and pain. You can choose to be present with the emotions that roll through in waves so that they can pass with ease. You can choose to send your light out to the people that have been affected by the tragedy. The path of healing is about embracing and accepting all things as your own creation and choosing to relate to them consciously. Each time you choose darkness, you always have an opportunity to choose again. That is the gift of our ability to create! “Take a deep breath into the body and let it go. As the breath leaves the body, hold the thought that there is nothing...

Check In, Be Still, & Release: Your Fall Guide to Healing

Check In, Be Still, & Release: Your Fall Guide to Healing

Happy Fall! We are moving towards the peak of Autumn and that means more than just sweaters, jeans, and cute boots (although I love all of these things)! As we move deeper into the season, we will watch the trees shed their leaves and the plants begin to die. The energy all around is moving from outward to inward. Nature is grounding and going back to its roots. Whether we realize it or not, we are connected to nature and we find ourselves aligned with this energetic shift. Fall is a time to check in, get quiet, be still, and release the old. We prepare ourselves now so that in the spring we are ready to invite in the new. During this season, you may find yourself simplifying and tapping back into your center by shedding what’s no longer needed. If so, follow your intuition! There is a reason why you feel called to clean out the cobwebs from the crawlspace, both physically and energetically. After the excitement of summer, this shift always feels really good and completely necessary to me. Times of transition, like the change of seasons, are potent times to set intentions on what you’d like to release. These intentions may be physical (like a habit or clutter in your home), mental (belief system that’s holding you back), emotional (letting go of toxic emotions), or spiritual (what blocks you from connection to Divine). The releasing and healing process can take time and seeing it through can be a challenge for most of us. Here are some suggestion on ways to support your releasing process. The energy all around is moving from outward to inward. Nature is grounding and going back to its roots. *Meditation We become better listeners when we regularly quiet the mind and get still. It’s in the space between thoughts that our intuition and heart speak to us.  Meditation strengthens our awareness. When we’re aware of what creates density and unease within, we can begin to heal and release. It is our presence in the body and deep breath that offers the healing. Everything is energy. This includes sensations, emotions, and thoughts. Our breath and presence moves energy. Exploration: Set your alarm for 15 minutes earlier than you usually do. You can do it! Sit comfortably and focus on your breath. Notice what you feel. Where you are tight and where you are open? What emotion(s) is/are stirring within? Are you feeling anxious about your day? Is there sadness in your heart? Perhaps you are feeling joyful and light. Honor it all! Notice your thoughts. Witness the thoughts without judging them or becoming attached to them. Notice the ease or difficulty with which you are able to sit still and be present. The point is to become aware of your experience. There is no right or wrong. The experience you are having is always perfect even though it might be difficult.  *Journaling Writing is a source of release by getting the energy in the body out onto the page. Once you’re aware of your intention(s) for release, write about it/them. Journaling about your intention is like a declaration that you’re ready. This declaration can help jump start the release process and draw in the support that will be needed to help you through it. Exploration: Sit down with your journal and begin to write about what you’d like to release. Try not to over think it. Let yourself free write and write whatever shows up in the moment. Continue to check in a few times a week and write about your experience. What are the challenges? Proudly write about your progress. Be grateful for each step forward as well as for the lessons in the challenges.  *Be in Nature We are in the flow of nature whether we realize it or not. The more that we connect to what’s happening all around us, the easier it becomes to settle into the flow of our own lives. It can be challenging to let go of old patterns and habits. Get outside regularly and be inspired by the ease...

Stop ‘Shoulding’ and Start Living Your Truth

Stop ‘Shoulding’ and Start Living Your Truth

Summer tends to be the busiest time of the year for most of us. Before we know it, we will have transitioned into Fall and Summer will be behind us. In the past month I have become an Aunt (woohoo!), traveled to 2 different states, seen 3 concerts at Red Rocks, and filled my schedule with private clients and yoga classes almost daily. Whoa! I realize that if I don’t pause every once and a while to take it all in, I’m going to miss out on the goodness of what’s happening right NOW! We have all said or heard someone say, “Where did the summer go?” Or “I should have done more camping, hiking, relaxing, traveling, etc.” Well, perhaps your summer is unfolding just as it is meant to. Stop ‘shoulding’ and start enjoying what’s happening right now. When you say, “I should,” it holds a different energy than saying “I desire” or “I will.” ‘Should’ implies that you are not good enough as you are right now. We have all learned throughout our lives what we ‘should’ want or how we ‘should’ be, but we’ve forgotten about what we truly desire. The ‘shoulds’ have clouded our ability to distinguish between what we have been taught is right/good and what we actually desire for ourselves/our lives. Mindful Exploration Sit down with paper and a pen. Write down all of the ‘shoulds’ that you tell yourself (ex: “I should work more,” “I should travel more,” “I should have more fun”). Once you have your list, sift through all the ‘shoulds’ and check in with whether or not you actually connect to them. One way to do this is to change the wording from “I should” to “I desire.” With the new wording, does the sentence still resonate with you? Allow yourself to feel the body as you read the sentences. Notice if your body feels expansive when you read the sentences. Do you feel like it’s suddenly easier to breathe? If so, that is a good indication that it is truly a desire for you. If your body feels unaffected or contracted, then that’s probably a message to you that it actually is not in line with your truth. This is a supportive exploration that will realign you with the natural flow of your life. When I sat down and explored this, I had around 20 ‘shoulds’ but only 4 of them were truly what I desired for my life! It’s incredible what our minds will create to keep us from feeling like we’ve failed in some way. Whether we realize it or not, everything is always as it is meant to be. This includes the challenging times in life when we feel like we’ve lost our way. It’s the setbacks that give us the space we need to spring forward in order to learn, grow, and explore through life. When I feel like I’ve made it through a challenging time, I also feel like I’ve stepped into a higher level of awareness. I’ve become more conscious of my thought patterns and actions that trigger the setbacks. This is the healing process. When we can look back and be grateful for the experience, then we absorb all of it’s teachings. In light of the seasonal change that’s upon us, trust in the flow of your life. Wherever you are, it is exactly where you are meant to...
